Everyone’s holy and perfect in God’s eyes.
It was Friday the 13th. Though some misfortunes happened a while ago, I still did receive a great blessing.
I don’t usually talk about some outreach stuff, but this one’s unforgettable. We went to PGH to pray and talk to the parents of some confined patients, particularly children with cleft palate.
We were accompanied by Doc Mel who runs a foundation across PGH namely, The Smile Train Craniofacial Center. The parents were approachable and I guess, happy to see us. It was nice to know that they are not expecting some money or anything. They just needed people to listen as they share their problems and experiences especially during their children’s operations. We gave them some simple treats afterwards.
As we walked through the hallway, a mother sitting on the floor while carrying her 9-year old daughter called Doc Mel. Her daughter, Adeline, has been waiting for her operation. Her face was somehow deformed due to a big lump on her upper nose and also because of her popped eyes. For three days, they’ve been going back to Manila just to wait for the doctor who’ll operate Adeline. As we say our goodbyes to her, my heart melted when I saw her smile (since her lips were the only ones that are identifiable). I have no idea if she was listening to our conversation but I didn’t expect that smile from her.
The strongest women can most be seen in the hospital. After giving birth, fighting for a sickness or watching her child’s operation. I’m proud of these women who have overcome such difficulties. I realize, I have no right to complain or be depressed easily about the petty problems that come my way. Instead, thank God that it’s just a petty one.
